Unfortunately, the dawn of fun sports cars is coming to an end. And with that comes the inevitable rise of compact family-friendly vehicles like the 2023 Honda Accord, as well as compact SUVs and the like.
That said, not all people crave a super-large SUV or a compact. Some buyers prefer their vehicles to be as capable on the road as they are off-road. Sure, some midsize pickups are top sellers like the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, but it lacks the performance feel.
Sure, performance pickups aren’t the most common in the automotive industry, but there’s a cult following around these vehicles. Look, Ford Ranger Raptor. It’s smaller than the F-150 Raptor and more practical than the Bronco Raptor. There’s been one generation of Ranger Raptor so far, but now a second generation is on the horizon, and it’s better than anyone expected.
10/10 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor Engine
The previous generation Ranger Raptor came with a diesel engine, and we’re happy to share that’s no longer the case. Gone is the small diesel powerplant and gone is the new, giant petrol powerplant.
Under the hood of the new Ford Ranger Raptor is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that produces 392 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. And yes, the difference is noticeable.
9/10 The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor is unstoppable off-road
Heavy 33-inch all-terrain tires lifted the suspension, and the Ford Ranger Raptor’s aggressive design isn’t just for show. The base plate under the front end is functional and so are the different driving modes – I’ll get into that in a bit.
The new Ranger Raptor also relies on 2.5-inch adaptive Fox shocks, and its differentials allow it to climb virtually any terrain.
8/10 The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor is also adequate on the highway
With this power, the Ranger Raptor is certainly quite light. While Ford has yet to release official 0-60 mph times, we can safely assume it will be around 5 seconds.
Unfortunately, its top speed is around 112 mph, but will you ever try to achieve that?
7/10 The striking design of the 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor
Apart from Ford’s brand new extravagant “Code Orange” color, there are quite a few other design elements that add to its aggressive personality.
The plastic wrap looks intimidating, the outward-facing grille does, and the sheer size of the Raptor will make you shudder in fear with your teenage Honda Ridgeline.
6/10 Brand new interior of the 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor
Yes, you don’t hear Ford’s interior every day, but you hear us. There’s still hard plastic scattered throughout the interior, but the technological aspect of things makes up for it.
The Raptor also comes standard with a full 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. In addition, the Ranger Raptor has electronically adjustable heated front seats and a stunning overall design.
5/10 The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor has a Baja mode
Now the fun and games stop here and the Ranger Raptor starts thinking about business. Apart from the clichéd comfort and sporty driving mode, the new Raptor has seven different modes to choose from, and Baja Mode stands out from the crowd.
Baja Mode enhances the Ranger Raptor’s exhaust note, keeps the turbochargers up for 3 seconds after you release the throttle, and lets you drive your Raptor the way it was meant to be driven…furiously.
4/10 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor Unusual Differentials
In addition to the unique Baja mode, the Ranger Raptor has something that off-road enthusiasts will drool over – locking differentials. To clarify, not only one of the differentials can lock, but both.
This means that when conquering difficult terrain, the Raptor’s diffs lock up and direct all of the V6’s power to one of the wheels with the most grip. In essence, this means that you can get out of any skateboard, regardless of the circumstances.
3/10 The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor is one of the best midsize pickups out there
As we said in the introduction, performance-based pickups are a rare phenomenon, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t competition. The Ranger Raptor’s two main rivals are the Chevy Colorado and the Jeep Gladiator.
Sure, in some ways these trucks outdo the Ford—for example, in towing capacity (the Ranger Raptor can tow up to 5,100 pounds)—but aside from these small, almost inconsequential aspects, the Ranger Raptor remains the undisputed king.
2/10 The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor is Ford’s most user-friendly Raptor yet
Ford also has two different Raptor models and they are based on the F-150 truck and the Bronco. The F-150 Raptor is a monstrous pickup truck designed for those who need to feel like the king of the road.
The Bronco Raptor, on the other hand, is for the most adventurous. So where does the Ranger Raptor rank in the Raptor lineup? Right button in the middle. It’s incredibly versatile off-road, but also big enough to rise above normal traffic while comfortably seating the whole family. The only more reassuring pickup Ford is building is the 2023 Ford Maverick, which you need to know a few things about beforehand, but again, there’s little to nothing.
1/10 The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor is the first Ranger Raptor to be available in the States
The previous generation Ranger Raptor was largely available worldwide, but some regions missed out. North America is one. Nevertheless, we are happy to share the good news that there will be a new Ranger Raptor.
What does this mean for the North American auto market? Well, to put it bluntly, everything changes. Now the people of the USA have the opportunity to buy one of the best utility vehicles the world has ever seen.
