Patiala, November 15

The Patiala police and counter-intelligence team claimed to have nabbed a gang that allegedly committed corruption in the Naib Tehsildar recruitment examination conducted by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) in May.

Five members of the gang – Navraj Chaudhary, Gurpreet Singh, Harvinder Singh, Jatinder Singh and Sonu Kumar – have already been arrested.

A case has been registered against them under sections 419, 420, 468, 471 and 120B of the IPC and relevant sections of the IT Act. Police said they bought Rs 22 lakh from the candidates. Another member has been identified as Jainpal Singh. Patiala Inspector General of Police Mukhwinder Singh Chinna said that the toppers in the final list included candidates who had cheated in writing the exam.

Police said dummy candidates were sent to examination centers and question papers were leaked by sending images to a control room set up in Haryana.

Answer keys were prepared by experts in the control room. Then, some of the team sitting outside the examination center relayed the answers to the candidates through GSM and Bluetooth devices.

Police have seized a laptop, two pen drives, seven Bluetooth earbuds, 11 GSM devices and 12 mobile phones from the accused.
