A CLASSIC Ford Sierra has sold at auction for an incredible sum that smashed its estimate.

This 1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth has only 8,795 miles on it and is in excellent condition.

Bidders went wild for the chance to own one of the most iconic fast Fords in history.

The hammer fell at an incredible £132,750, around £22,000 more than Silverstone Auctions thought it could fetch.

The auction took place at the NEC Classic Motor Show last weekend, where a number of amazing classics went under the hammer.

The Sierra RS Cosworth is one of the most sought-after Sierras, surpassed only by the even rarer RS500.

The ad says the Sierra is “Moonstone Blue with a virtually unmarked Recaro gray cloth interior” and “only two previous owners have had the pleasure of owning this timeless car from new.

“It was kept in dry storage in 2003 and only recently came out of hiding to be commissioned again in April this year at a cost approaching £7,000.”

Ford partnered with Cosworth in its motorsport program and the Sierra Cosworth was built as a road homologation model to allow it to be raced.

It had a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with around 200bhp sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.

It is extremely rare to find a device in such amazing condition that has clearly been very well cared for by its owners.

The advert continues: ‘It comes with the original Henlys Ford invoice of £16,630, an original Henlys book pack including an owner’s manual, audio guide, period official press kit and Ford maintenance plan booklet.
