More than 40 students who have taken ballet exams with the Royal Academy of Dance have achieved Merit, High Merit and Distinction through Janet Seymour’s School of Theater Dance.
Before former pupil Hannah Smith took over the school, the students were the last to take the exam under the tutelage of Janet Seymour.
Janet said: “The students, aged six to 18 and at all levels from primary to advanced, have worked so hard to continue dancing during these unprecedented times and I am extremely proud of what they have achieved.”
The students included Ellen Stewart, 15, Hannah Kettlewell, 15, Charlotte Lamb, 13, Eva Clinton, 14, and 15-year-old Beth Butler.

Most of these students have been trained at the school in Reith since the age of three.
They sat the Intermediate Ballet exam, the second of the vocational exams in association with the Royal Academy of Dance, and all would go on to advanced careers.
Beth said: “I didn’t expect to do so well with such a high grade and I’m blown away by my marks!
“Juggling school at times was hard work, but I’m glad I stuck with it with the support of my teachers.
“I really enjoyed taking lessons because it was often an escape from the pressures of school. I gave myself something else to focus on. It was also an enjoyable way to spend time with my friends.”
Ellen said: “I couldn’t believe the marks I got for this high grade in ballet, having a lesson every week to look forward to after a busy day at school kept me going and knowing that Mrs Seymour supported me to get good marks in my exams even though the lessons were tough.
“I find it really helpful to have a class where you are 100% focused because it means you forget about the stress of exams and school. I also like to dance with my best friends, it’s really fun.
Charlotte added: “I was delighted to receive a distinction as the standard was so high.
“I’ve worked really hard and it’s tiring at times but it’s also very rewarding. I really like practicing variation because it sets me free. Ballet interests me outside of school, so it takes my mind off my schoolwork for a while.
Hannah said: “I was so excited to get my result, I was so happy and relieved when I got it.
“The run up to the exam was hard work and we had a lot of extra lessons that were beneficial to get a good grade, which of course everyone wanted.
“The extra lessons Mrs. Seymour gave us was a great opportunity and I enjoyed spending time with my friends while doing something I love.”
Eva said: “I was relieved to know that I had passed my exam and that I had worked so hard for it and got a merit.
“Preparing for my exams has given me a nice break from my schoolwork and I always look forward to my classes after school.”
