Banner – University Medicine Neuroscience Institute offers educational awareness and free exams during Dia de los Muertos event on Oct. 30 | Rare Techy

On Sunday, Oct. 30, neurosurgeons from the Banner-University Medicine Neuroscience Institute will offer free neurological exams, blood pressure screenings and engage the community about misconceptions about neurological problems and how they affect Hispanics.

Dia de los Muertos Education Program for Neurological Issues 2-7pm at Steele Indian School Park, 300 E. It will be held at Indian School Road.

The Hispanic population, which is expected to nearly double by 2050, is one of the largest subpopulations living with epilepsy and has experienced a significant increase in stroke mortality since 2013. Additionally, Hispanics face health disparities due to less access to care. and specialists.

“Banner Health is committed to improving the neurosurgical health of all patients,” said Dr. Peter Nakaji said. “This much-needed event is intended to improve outreach and access, and will address the need to increase understanding of preventive health through better education and easier access to healthcare in an effort to reduce the number of stroke-related deaths in the Hispanic community. .”

Nakaji, doctors Michaela Lee and Robert Bina will participate in the event, and there will be an altar to honor family members and loved ones who have died from neurological diseases.

Free blood pressure checkup will be conducted from 2 pm to 4 pm. 3 to 4 neurological tests will be done.
