If you want to run household appliances in a mobile home, garage, truck or car, you need a voltage of 230 volts – and a voltage converter 12V > 230V for this. Also known as transformers, power transformers.

Words first: what is a voltage converter?
It has many names: inverter, voltage converter, current converter, and AC-DC converter. Then there are direct current converters (DC-DC converters).
A voltage converter converts the current to the required voltage. And it is used in most places where power comes from 12 volt battery (or 24V) must be consumed with a device with a different voltage (usually 230V). There are also many other application areas (for example, photovoltaics), but we are focusing on the energy stored in the home battery, in the on-board network of the car, the mobile home, truck or car.
What does an inverter do?? Most touring cars have a 12V battery installed in the seat. Then it converts this 12V DC voltage to 230V AC voltage. This is exactly what a transformer does. So I can install the required device in this and consume the converted power.
Do I need a voltage converter?
Wait, do you want it? For almost all appliances it is 230 volts, and it is different with 12 volts
You can say that it works without 230V – as long as 12 volts and gas (diesel or furnace) are available because everything that produces heat and cold is consumed the amount of electricity. In addition to the 12 V refrigerator, it is not easy. A 12V kettle takes a long time to boil half a liter of water. Air conditioners for motorhomes may be 12V, but that means they need more electricity to operate.
There is one thing to consider: Sometimes 12-volt appliances are more expensive. It’s called “camping” up there, and camping gear is more expensive. So the question arises as to what is more expensive: buying a converter or new equipment, especially for mobile homes, trucks, vans or cars?
The best example is the 12V compressor box – prices are not mentioned here. Refrigerators are often more expensive.
Tip: Inverter for laptop? no
Normally the laptop needs 19V DC. 230V AC voltage comes from the socket. When we run a notebook as an inverter, the following happens: the voltage converter converts 12V to 230V, and the notebook power supply converts 230V to 18V. So one up, one down, and even two losses because of the change. That is not needed. There are 12V notebook power supplies, some from the manufacturer (for example, Lenovo), but above all from Hama (with adapters for all laptops) and Apple. However, be aware: our high-performance computers draw 10 amperes under full load (editing videos, playing games).
If the cable behind the 12V socket is 3 meters long, and the battery draws 10 amps, the calculation is 10 amps: 5.5 x 3 meters long cable = 5.5mm² minimum cross section cable. So lay 6mm², and long and happy lines.
We have two computers as in the beginning, and our 12V cables are too thin – so we run them now with a 230V conversion. We’ll do it until someone feels like laying a new cable. This converter has 300 watts of pure electric current. It’s only there for laptops and it costs a free washing machine.
Which inverter is right for me?
There are many voltage converters on the market. So let’s break it down:
SINE: Modulated waveforms and pure waveforms
Voltage: Voltage converter for 12V to 230V (cars), 24V to 230V (trucks), 12V to 110V (USA)
Renogy: Inverters and generators from 150 Watts to 3000 Watts (and more)
COMBI: Voltage converter that can change the current in both directions: 230V> 12V to charge the battery, and 12/24V to 230V, to consume the current. Or for feeding into the power grid (home network).
Pure electromagnetic waves or modified electromagnetic waves?
Perhaps the most common starting position. The question-resistance is always: which coffee machine, simple machine or capsule machine? Not all converters convert 12-volt current into usable 230-volt current. In particular the lower voltage transformers produce a “modulated electromagnetic wave.” However, many devices require a “pure sine wave.” Otherwise, it will not work at all, or it will bite the dust.

Ø Equipment that cannot be moved or broken: laptops, tablets and portable machines,

Sinus inverters are much more expensive. Anyone who wants to save money here and wants to look around on eBay for a low voltage converter with a pure sine wave should know: A pure tube sine wave isn’t always what it says it is. sine wave above. It might just be like a sine. The same applies to generators. Smaller devices can be problematic because they don’t produce pure electromagnetic waves. So it may happen that the battery charger in the mobile home does not need to use electricity from the generator. But this is little.
Conclusion: pure sine is better with its price
It goes well with a small wave inverter from China – it goes wrong too. I did the test, almost immediately, when I let two 1500-watt inverters overheat while switching on my mobile home. Cheap Chinese products, even with a German company name on them. The third one, on the other hand, is another one made in the middle price segment, which lasts three years without failure. Anyway, I will buy a higher voltage converter today. Smoking in a car is not a pleasant experience.
If you don’t want to connect any equipment with sensitive electronics to your inverter, you can use a much lower voltage inverter with a modified voltage. Or a small Chinese unit, with a wave that is considered pure, will win and the difference in price will be small.
150 watt to 3000 watt and the power changes when needed
The maximum power an inverter can provide depends on what you want to control. The main rule: the smaller the shape of the converter, the more powerful it is. However, if the measurement is too small, it is worthless, so you will be buying twice.
The starting current must also be considered. Typically, the value of nominal power (immediate power) is passed twice. For a 1000 watt inverter, it is 2000 watts. Some devices require high voltage for a very short time to reach operating temperature. Electronic devices, for example, can apply 10-fold power. It would be crazy if the start time was longer – for example, my small 230V compressor fridge needs 50 Watts when it starts, but needs 500 Watts for the first 5 seconds. This is too long to count as starting current, so the actual output of the inverter is designed accordingly.
We have two 12V outlets in the mobile home, one large and one small.

What are the two inverters in a mobile home?
The higher the rated voltage converter, the higher the no-load current. The inverter consumes electricity even when it is not converting electricity. But he can always do it if he wants to, and this mobile service will cost more and more turnover than less. It doesn’t matter in the summer when the solar system keeps pumping electricity into the batteries – but it happens in the winter half of the year when there’s less sun in the sky and it’s dark.
Why should you focus on buying an inverter?
My criteria are:

Only some people want all these features. You can make a remote control yourself to conveniently turn the voltage converter on/off. However, a link platform should be available for this. If you don’t want to turn off your inverter, you should pay attention to the low power consumption in sleep mode. For those who need it all the time, agility will do more.
