The CBI on Thursday conducted searches at 25 locations in connection with a case of cash worth Rs 11 crore missing from the premises of an SBI branch at Karauli in Rajasthan, officials said on Friday.
The central agency had registered the case on April 13 following an order of the Rajasthan High Court, they said.
Searches were conducted at 25 locations in Delhi, Jaipur, Dausa, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Alwar, Udaipur and Bhilwara on 15 former bank officials and others, they said.
The issue came to light after the State Bank of India (SBI) branch decided to do the cash counting after a preliminary investigation showed a discrepancy in its cash reserve in August, 2021.
The count was sent to a private seller and revealed that more than $11 billion in cash was lost from the branch.
Only 3,000 cash bags carrying about Rs 2 crore could be accounted for and transferred to the RBI’s cash custody branch.
