So what exactly happened?

The NTA has canceled the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) from Shift 1 and Shift 2 in many centers on August 5. Parents of candidates alleged that all the centers cited technical glitches and canceled the exams without prior notice, leaving students confused.

The CUET UG 2022 examination which was scheduled to be held on August 5 in the first shift has been postponed at 20 examination centres. Meanwhile, the exam scheduled to be held on August 5 in the second shift has been postponed at 30 exam centres. The first shift exam, which was scheduled to be held on August 4, has been shifted to August 12-14 in a few exam centres.

CUET UG 2022 2nd phase examination saw technical glitches on both the days – 4-5 August – as the question paper of the second shift could be uploaded only at 5 pm. Although the exam was scheduled to start at 3 pm, the download in 489 centers could start at 5.25 pm. On August 5, the first shift of CUET UG started half an hour late again due to technical glitches.

Why this technical glitch?

After reviewing the situation on August 5, it came to the conclusion that some centers have failed to follow existing protocols.

NTA said:

“The NTA yesterday (Friday) took cognizance of the inconvenience faced by students at some centers and reviewed the entire situation at CUTE. Some centers were found to have failed to adhere to protocols. Non-complaint / sabotage / lack of knowledge will be taken very seriously and strict action will be taken against those centers for smooth conduct of examinations in future,” NTA said in a statement on August 6.

What’s next?

With students tensed over exam uncertainty, University Grants Commission Chairman Jagadesh Kumar took to Twitter on August 7 and said, “From 12th to 14th August 2022, CUET (UG) – 2022 exam will now be held from 24th to 28th August 2022 for all these candidates (who could not appear). And fresh admit card will be issued before the exam date.

The third phase of the examination will be conducted on August 17, 18 and 20, 2022 as per the schedule notified to the candidates earlier.

Candidates are also advised to refer to NTA website www.nta.ac.in for latest updates related to the examination.
