FORD Fiestas and Range Rovers have been named as the most stolen cars in the UK in 2022, according to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).

The data was analyzed by car leasing company Rivervale Leasing, which found that up to November 22 this year, 58,082 stolen vehicles had been reported to the DVLA by the police.

This means that an average of 159 vehicles are stolen per day and 1,117 vehicles are stolen per week.

This is quite a lot higher than the number of vehicles stolen in 2021, which was 48,492.

The soon-to-be-discontinued Ford Fiesta was the most stolen in the UK in 2022 – 5,724 times, DVLA data revealed.

Vince Pemberton, chief executive of Rivervale and car expert, said: “Keyless car theft, known as relay theft, is becoming more and more common. This is where people use keyless entry, using a device to capture a signal sent to the car.

“It’s hard to prevent, but you can help reduce your chances of becoming a victim by keeping your keys in a bag or box designed to block the signal. A steering wheel lock and additional car alarm can also help prevent thieves from accessing and stealing your car.

“Finally, keep an eye out for people lurking, especially when leaving your vehicle. If you think someone is threatening, notify the police.
