Ford Holiday River Parade in San Antonio – What to Expect
Taking place for an hour along the San Antonio River Walk, the Ford Holiday River Parade is the 41st annual award-winning San Antonio event. San Antonio’s tradition of ringing in the Christmas season begins with this year’s theme, Tastes & Traditions Around the World.
We are excited to give you the details. Acting as grand marshal is the Grinch, who has made a special trip from Whoville for the celebration. Next week, he will appear on Broadway in San Antonio in Dr. In Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! At the Majestic Theatre, The Musical.

San Antonio’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and River Lighting Event, always held the day after Thanksgiving, features 28 lighted floats and more than 100,000 lights (2,250 strands) are turned on along the river walk.
For those of you who google, “When do the lights come on on the riverwalk?” or “when is the riverway san antonio lighting,” the lights are on every day from sunset to sunrise until the weekend after New Year’s Day.

Ford Holiday River Parade in San Antonio – 2022 Hours of Operation
For anyone who has been searching “when is the San Antonio River Parade?” or “where does the parade start and end?”, the San Antonio Holiday River Parade begins at 6:00 PM on Friday, November 25, 2022 and runs until 9:00 PM.
You can view the full schedule below:
- 4:00 PM – River Walk closes to the public.
- 17:00 – River Walk gates open for ticket holders.
- 6:00 p.m. – The parade will begin at the Tobin Center and move to other areas later. (check the times on the map)
- 18-19 – Pre-parade show at Arneson for ticket holders.
- 19:00 – Illumination of the river walk.
- 17-20 – televised parade – on Santa’s last swim.
Ford Holiday River Parade 2022 in San Antonio – Tickets
The event is always held the day after Thanksgiving, and tickets can be purchased online for $15 to $40. You can buy tickets here. Children 2 years of age and older also need a ticket for the parade. And tickets are non-refundable/exchangeable.

There are a number of free viewing spots along the parade route. This space is available on a first-come, first-served basis: on the east side of the River Walk between Pecan Street and Richmond Ave.
