This isn’t the first time stars have been digitally aged to turn back the clock on movies.

One notable example was the 2008 film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, in which Brad Pitt underwent a series of digital transformations to portray a man who aged back in time.

This technique was also used to transform Robert Downey Jr.’s younger form in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War.

This year, Bruce Willis became the first star to sell his digital likeness, allowing a tech company to create movies using a CGI version of his face.

“Hero in the Sunset”

James Mangold, the director of the new Indiana Jones movie, said it was important that Ford’s latest outing focused on the hero’s age.

“It became very important to me to figure out how to make this movie about the hero at sunset,” he said.

“The issues I brought up about Indy’s age were not things I thought would be addressed in the material being developed at the time. There were ‘old’ jokes, but the material wasn’t about that.

“I think you should fly towards it, whatever your biggest responsibility is. If you try to pretend it’s not there, you’ll get slings and arrows all the way.
