Indiana Jones 5 turns back Harrison Ford’s clock with anti-aging technology | Rare Techy

Harrison Ford dons his hat and whips the bad guys in the as-yet-untitled Indiana Jones 5. Empire revealed the first look at Ford in Jones mode last week, but these photos also contained our first hints at the actual plot of the game. film, but also Harrison Ford’s First: Aging Through Technology.

Ford’s aging is minimized through visual effects, so that Indiana Jones appears in the film as his age from the original trilogy. This scene is only used in the opening of the film, which is set in a castle in 1944 and where Indiana is fighting a group of Nazis, but follows the action of the film.

“Then we fall out and you find yourself in 1969,” said director James Mangold, who takes over from Steven Spielberg to make the film. “So that the audience doesn’t experience the change between the ’40s and the ’60s as an intellectual conceit, but literally experiences the vibrant spirit of those early days… and then the beginning of now.”

Empire also reported that several techniques were used to pull off the sequence, including brand new ILM software that scanned through footage of a young Harrison Ford before matching it with new footage from the film. Ford said he was a little startled by the footage.

“This is the first time I’ve seen it where I believe it… I don’t think I even want to know how it works, but it does,” Ford said. “It doesn’t make me want to be young though. I’m glad I’ve lived up to my age.”

Ford, who turned 80 last July, has played the professor/archaeologist/Nazi beater for nearly half his life, most recently in 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, where he battled the Russians in search of alien technology. It had less-than-stellar reviews and entered the word “fridge nucleation” into our geek lexicon.

Mads Milkenssen, Antonio Banderas and Phoebe Waller-Bridge will join Ford in his fifth Indiana Jones adventure, slated for summer 2023.
