‘Indiana Jones 5’ uses new technique to reduce Harrison Ford’s age in one scene: ‘It’s a bit creepy’ | Rare Techy

James Mangold’s Indiana Jones 5 may be more than half a year away from its release date, and fan excitement is at an all-time high. The film marks the fifth and final time Harrison Ford takes on the role of the archeology professor and adventurer. In addition to Harrison Ford, “Indiana Jones 5” also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones and Antonio Banderas. The film promises to be a fitting send-off for one of the most iconic characters – at least Ford’s version of it. Mangold, who is known for acclaimed films such as the superhero film ‘Logan’ and the sports drama ‘Ford v Ferrari’, has revealed an interesting tidbit about the film.

Speaking to Empire, Mangold said that in the first few minutes, we get to see a classic Indy – like the hero of the first three films. This is made possible by this modern film miracle – digital aging.

“I wanted an opportunity to immerse myself in that old image of George and Steven and give the audience an adrenaline rush,” Mangold said. The scene puts Indy back in the 1940s to confront the Nazis.

Ford said he’s a believer in aging technology, which has ranged from weird to downright terrible in the past. For example, while Robert de Niro looked good as a younger version of himself in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, he moved and acted like the man in his 70s that he really is.

“This is the first time I’ve seen it where I believe it. It’s a little scary. I don’t think I even want to know how it works, but it does,” Ford said.

The Indiana Jones film series began with Steven Spielberg’s 1981 blockbuster, Raiders of the Lost Ark. He followed it up with 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

In total, the films have grossed nearly $2 billion worldwide on a budget of $279 million.

“Indiana Jones 5” is scheduled for release on June 30, 2023.
