Indiana Jones 5 is a blast from the past – literally.

The fifth entry in the iconic trilogy features footage of a much younger Harrison Ford created using new aging technology.

In the opening sequence of the film, Ford appears in accordance with the original trilogy empire. The opening scene is the only one where the star is digitally aged, turning the clock back to 1944 before flashing back to 1969, when the main action of the film takes place.

The 80-year-old actor has not stepped into the shoes of the iconic archaeologist since the 2008 episode. Kingdom of the Crystal Skulltold the magazine that seeing her younger self on the big screen was believable but terrifying.

“This is the first time I’ve seen it where I believe it,” the star said of the rejuvenating technique.

“It’s a little scary,” Ford continued. “I don’t think I even want to know how it works, but it does.”

According to the magazine, getting back to the Indy we all know and love required a number of techniques, including new VFX software that combed through archived footage of the younger Ford and matched it with the new footage. A jacket worn by Ford in 1981 Raiders of the Lost Ark was also taken from stock and replicated exactly for the scene.

Director James Mangold spoke empire that in reducing aging at the opening of Ford’s film, he wanted “an opportunity to immerse himself in such a fully George [Lucas]-and-Steven [Spielberg] old picture and give the audience an adrenaline rush.”

“So that the audience would not experience the change between the 40s and 60s as intellectual vanity, but would literally experience the raw spirit of those early days,” said the director. “And then the beginning of the present moment.”

Producer Kathleen Kennedy spoke empire that he hopes the audience will be baffled by this scene.

“I hope that even though it’s being talked about in terms of technology, you just look at it and say, ‘Oh my God, they just found the footage,'” Kennedy said.

Although the reduction in aging won Ford’s approval, the actor said it didn’t make him want to turn back time on screen.

“It doesn’t make me want to be young, though,” he said. “I’m glad I’ve lived up to my age.”
