KCPE, Grade VI National Exams have started | Rare Techy

Monday, November 28^thMore than 2.5 candidates in primary schools across Kenya have started their Grade Six and Eight National Examinations

In the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations, out of 2,531,785 candidates, 1,244,188 will sit for the KCPE exam, while 1,287,597 will sit for the KPSEA exam. New Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

Today, Class 8 candidates will appear for Maths, English Language and Writing exams. Their Grade 6 counterparts will sit for Math and English.

Education officials are making arrangements to enable students in flood- and insecurity-affected areas to appear for exams.

Standard 8 students will write Mathematics, English Language and Composition papers. On Tuesday they will have Science, Kiswahili and Insha.

On the last day they will have Social Studies and Religious Education papers. Maths and English will start as Paper 1 on Monday for Class VI students.

On Tuesday learners will be assessed in Integrated Science and Kiswahili. The Kanni assessment will conclude on Wednesday with Creative Arts and Social Studies.

For Grade 6, subjects are clustered into five integrated sciences comprising Science and Technology, Agriculture, Home Science and Physical Health.

Creative Arts and Social Studies includes social studies, Christian, Islamic and Hindu education, arts and crafts and music.

Summative assessments contribute 60 percent while two school-based assessments contribute 20 percent each. Unlike KCPE exams, where candidates get 100 percent rating, KPSEA carries only 40 percent of the final score.

The remaining 60 percent comes from classroom-based continuous assessment tests conducted in grades 4, 5, and 6.
