The Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC has contracted 250,000 teachers to take charge of the upcoming national examinations of Kenya Primary School Education Assessment, KPSEA, Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. KCSE

“Over 250,000 teachers are gearing up for Kenya’s most challenging examination season, which begins on November 25. Aware of the challenges likely to be faced in the conduct of the three year-end examinations, the TSC has sent an early directive to field officers to identify and screen teachers of integrity for the exercise, the most extensive since independence,” TSC in its quarterly publication called Teacher’s Image.

Data from the examination council shows that about 1.2 million candidates will sit for their KCPE, about 1.3 million for KPSEA and another 800,000 for KCSE. The sub-county directors were expected to nominate and vet national examination officials by last week.

Teachers will be deployed as Center Managers, Supervisors, Invigilators and Examiners. Heads of institutions act as center managers and supervisors and invigilators are drawn from other schools. Only teachers working in KNEC will participate.

The Teacher Service Commission, TSC has deployed 242,406 teachers for the 2021 belated examinations conducted from March to April this year (2022).

These exams will involve the largest number of candidates in the country’s history, totaling more than three million. In the 2021 exams, 1,214,031 candidates appeared for the KCPE exam while 826,807 appeared for the KCSE exam.

The exams come at a time when a new education cabinet secretary has been appointed. New Education Ministry Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu Ombaki continues the mantle from where former CS Magoha left off.

Grade 6 learners will take part in the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) ahead of their transition to junior secondary school in January. This is the first cohort under the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

They will have rehearsal on Friday 25th November and assessment from Monday 28th November to Wednesday 30th November. Another exam taking place at the same time is the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination for Class 8 candidates. .

This is the second last KCPE exam and the last 8-4-4 fellows will finish primary school next year; We use the Competency-Based Curriculum, CBC. The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations will begin on Friday, December 2 and run until December 23.
