Mobile internet services will be temporarily suspended in several districts of Assam on Sunday as the state government conducts written examinations for Grade III posts in various departments. Internet will be temporarily suspended to ensure free and fair examinations.
The local government also issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 prohibiting gathering of four or more people in an area as a precautionary security measure.
On Saturday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma also reviewed the preparations for the examination.
On August 21, mobile internet services were suspended in all 25 districts of Assam while the state conducted examinations for Grade IV posts. This was to ensure that no candidate indulges in cheating with the help of internet.
The state will conduct the final examination for Grade IV posts on September 11. So far, no suspension of internet order for that day has been given.
The Guwahati High Court refused to stay the order suspending mobile internet as a writ petition was filed against the order. The administration has also issued orders under Section 144 prohibiting assembly of people except candidates, scribes and officials within 100 meters of examination centres.
The Chief Minister reviewed the preparations for the exam through an online meeting with government officials. He issued strict instructions to ensure that no one resorted to unfair means in the examination, an official release said. He asked the officials to ensure smooth completion of the August 21 examination.
Sharma asked the officials to ensure traffic management in their areas before and after the examination and ensure that no candidate faces any difficulty in reaching the centre. DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, Principal Secretary Neeraj Verma and other officials presented the arrangements to the Chief Minister.
Himanta Biswa Sharma asserted that the government system will be efficient if people selected on merit are appointed to government posts. He added that this is crucial in making Assam one of the most developed and progressive states in the country.
Board of Secondary Education Assam (SEBA) conducts examinations for about 30,000 posts in Grade III and IV categories. The board expects more than 14.30 lakh candidates to appear for the exam.
Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed on candidates within 100 meters radius of the SEBA office till the board receives, deposits and scrutinizes the answer scripts.
