There were questions about their absence as neither of them suffered from injuries going into Qatar 2022.
But later it was discovered that the couple had caught the cold by using the fans in their hotel rooms to keep cool.
talkSPORTs Nigel Adderley said: “We’ve lost two players, Morata and Carvajal who are suffering from colds due to the air conditioning around their hotel.
“It didn’t make it to the starting line either.”

Air conditioning is essential in Qatar at this time of the year as temperatures can reach above 30 degrees Celsius.
Due to the rising temperature all stadiums used in the competition have installed air conditioning units.
The absence of Morata and Carvajal was a minor one as the Spaniards finished firing in Costa Rica.
Luis Enrique’s side registered what was the biggest win of the tournament, beating the Costa Ricans for seven without reply.

“He’s unique and very different because he’s 18 now, but he has the characteristics of a skilled player.
“It’s fun playing with a boy, because he’s a boy.
“He needs to take it easy at times but we are very happy to have him in the team.

“I think he’s one of the stars of football.”
