The National Council of Education Research and Training has been approached by three global education nonprofits, Educational Testing Services and ERS; The American Institute for Research, AIR, and the Australian Council for Educational Research, ACER, to establish a school examinations regulator.
According to the report, a school exams regulator is in talks and three global firms have expressed interest. It is called PARAKH, Performance Appraisal, Review and Analysis of Knowledge and Development. The three global bodies have expressed interest in establishing India’s first National School Examination and Assessment Regulation for NCERT. This exam regulator is yet to be finalized but will be established by NCERT soon.
Among the three global bodies, each is known for conducting study abroad entrance exams, i.e. the English as a Foreign Language test such as ETS, and the Graduate Record Test for students to gain admission to top universities abroad. AIR and ACER are known for their research in behavioral and social science domain and learning assessment studies. All these three bodies have shown interest to NCERT and responded to what is known as expressions of interest to help them select consulting services for setting up PARAKH.
The School Examinations Regulator Parakh aims to establish benchmarking and parity among School Examination Boards and promote cooperation between them. The exam regulator is expected to address the issue of disparity in scores among students belonging to different boards. NCERT PARAKH, exam regulator will set soon.
