STATEN ISLAND, NY – The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) has released the August application schedule for civil service exams.
Open, competitive and computer based tests are conducted every month for various posts.
The DCAS Computer-Based Testing and Application Centers (CTAC), where the exams are held, have reopened to the public. However, due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, walk-ins are no longer accepted and appointments must be scheduled online in the Online Application System (OASys).
This month’s application period begins August 10 for the following positions: Call Center Representative; correctional officer; Marine Engineer (Diesel); Marine Oiler; Police Administrative Assistant; Police officer
New York City employs hundreds of thousands of people in its 80 agencies. Taking a test is the way to start the hiring process for most of these positions. Application fees range from $40 to $101.

Former Mayor Bill de Blasio announced in early August 2021 that all newly hired city workers would be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
According to DCAS, as of August 2, 2021, all new hires must be vaccinated against the coronavirus, unless they are given a reasonable accommodation for religion or disability. If you are offered a job in the City, this requirement must be met on the date of your hire, unless a reasonable accommodation exemption is obtained and approved by the hiring agency.
From March 1, 2021, all examination and merit list related notifications will be sent through email only; You will no longer receive notices via US mail.
The testing center is located at 135 Canal St., Stapleton, Staten Island. Additional testing centers are located at: 2 Lafayette St., Manhattan; 210 Joralemon St., Brooklyn; 118-35 Queens Blvd., Queens; 1932 Arthur Ave., Bronx.
Once an exam is administered, it typically takes nine to 12 months to establish an eligible list of passers, according to DCAS.
Also, merit lists for police officer, police communication technician, traffic enforcement agent and school security agent examinations, which were scheduled to close between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021, will also be extended by one year.
