NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WLUC) – The UP high school football team left for Ford Field on Thanksgiving Day.

The Negaunee Miners will play in the Division Six state football final on Friday. The team went 13-0 after defeating Reed City last weekend in Gaylord. The Miners will face Grand Rapids West Catholic for the first time in 20 years. On Thursday, the team loaded onto a bus for Detroit and left with a parade of parents, the fire department and fans wishing them luck.

Negaunee head coach Paul Jacobson said on the Morning News that the community support this week has been something special.

“The business has been incredible,” Jacobson said. “They’ve come in from all over. Not just Negaunee, not just Marquette County, but all over the Upper Peninsula, and that’s the special thing about it.

Kickoff from Ford Field is Friday at 4:30 p.m. You can watch the game on Bally Sports Detroit.
