SBI introduces email OTP verification service for secure digital transactions | Rare Techy


The country’s largest lender, State Bank of India (SBI) has taken the security level of digital transactions a step further by launching its email OTP verification service. SBI customers can now receive OTP information for transactions made through internet banking at the registered email address. This step will allow them to secure their transactions via email OTP.

Hence, SBI through a Tweet said that “Always go for safe and secure digital transactions. Enable OTP notification for your registered email address immediately!.”

How to activate SBI email OTP?

Any internet banking user can use the service to generate email OTP for internet banking transactions/activities. To enable the same, the following steps can be considered.

1. Visit and click on continue to login to your net banking account by entering your User ID details and password.

2. Now go to the ‘Profile’ section and scroll down to the ‘Advanced Security’ options.

3. Now apply OTP on SMS and Email.

4. Confirm the application and you will receive a successful message on your registered email address.

SBI users can generate OTP while making a transaction in Yono Lite SBI application or SBI Internet Banking. SBI customers can also generate OTPs using “State Bank Secure OTP Application”, which is made available by the bank for Internet Banking (INB) transactions through Onlinesbi and Yono Lite. The app will replace the need for net banking transactions to receive OTP via SMS. Once it is registered, the application can generate an OTP through the application. Apps can be found in the Android and iOS app stores. SBI has mentioned on its website that “Once you have registered the SBI Secure OTP application, all transactions that require OTP through Yono Lite SBI version 4.2.0 and above will allow OTP online mode to be selected. You can use your SBI Secure OTP to generate OTP for such transactions.Please note that if you are using an older version of Yono Lite SBI, it is recommended that you update the same by visiting the app’s marketplace. You will no longer receive OTP via SMS for transaction made through Yono Lite SBI.”

A user can select the OTP on the application by selecting the “Online OTP” option on the internet banking screen, and then selecting the “Get Online OTP” option in the Secure OTP App. To use this option, the customer must have mobile internet. Once the OTP is entered on the net banking screen, the transaction will be confirmed.

Against the increasing number of phishing attacks across the country, SBI has stated as a security measure for its customers that “State Bank or any of its agents will never send you an email/SMS or call you on phone to get any information. receive your personal, password or a one-time SMS. password (high security).
