MUMBAI : India’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) aims to revamp its leadership program to help prepare senior managers who have been with the organization for at least 15 years for senior management roles, said the bank.

According to the document that invites applications from consultants who want to collaborate in the development of the SBI program, this step will facilitate effective succession planning and easy inter-vertical transfer, in addition to offering career development opportunities to senior managers.

Managers should be evaluated on their ability to prepare personal development plans before being considered for promotion, she said.

“To ensure a sustainable competitive advantage, it is important that when delegating higher responsibilities to senior executives, the managers being considered are evaluated for the key skills required to manage the position in accounting, and make an informed decision and also understand the developmental needs of the basin being evaluated.” said.

The program proposes to identify behavioral skills by performing cognitive and psychometric tests.

The competency assessment company is expected to design and conduct online assessments, which are centrally administered with simultaneous access to all participants. Once skill levels are mapped, the program will offer progress feedback and implement individual development plans, SBI said.

“The development intervention should include micro-learning sessions, activities, video cascades for the participants (on a weekly basis) to enable continuous learning. The content of the journey will need to be for the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector in general, and SBI should be particularly favoured,” it said in the document.

SBI said its human resources are unmatched and it is one of the few organizations in India that has a large pool of employees from diverse regional and cultural groups. The bank said it has a well-established structure for managing human resources, continuously reviewing plans and policies and introducing strategic interventions for improvement. “The top management class plays a key role in driving key initiatives and serving as change agents as well as grooming their subordinates by engaging as mentors,” SBI said.
