A teenage girl reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her home after failing her SSC examination in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi.
She was a humanities student at the local Al Haj Baslul Haq JM High School, her cousin Jewel Mia told the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.
The results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations were published on Monday, and the 15-year-old went to school with her friends only to learn that she had failed in Maths, English and Paper Two.
That very night, she shared her grief with her elder sister on the phone.
When she came to her parents’ house from her mother-in-law’s house on Tuesday, she found the door of her younger sister’s room locked from inside.
Her family panicked and with the help of neighbors broke down the door and found the teenager hanging from the ceiling fan in the room.
Later, after getting information from the locals, the police arrived and recovered the body.
Lisa Acter, a friend of the dead man, said: “We all urged her to review her results … but she killed herself before the process started.”
Raipura Police Station SI Naseer Uddin said that legal action will be taken after talking to the family of the deceased.
