The 2023 Ford Ranger lacks a huge engine selection | Rare Techy

[ad_1]
With the all-new 2023 Ford Ranger almost upon us, we can expect a variety of engine options. At least we expected a choice of engines. While it’s available in some countries with both a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, it’s not in the US. Here we see only 270 hp from the 2.3-liter. and 310 lb-ft of torque.
Does the Ranger offer hybrid or electric powertrains?

But the big question for engine options is “where are the hybrid and electric versions?” Ford was first with its all-electric F-150 Lightning. So the F-150 has a hybrid option, and Ford only offers a smaller Maverick with a hybrid powertrain. As you can see, Ford has already looked deep into electric power alternatives for its pickup trucks. Except Ranger.
Both the Ram 1500 and Silverado 1500 full-size pickups have hybrid options. But Ram is completely off the charts when it comes to midsize or compact pickups in its truck lineup. It does, however, offer emerging markets a midsize Ram 700. It’s not a hybrid though, but why it’s not sold here is a mystery.
When can we expect the Ranger Hybrid?

According to Automotive News, Ford should have a hybrid option for the Ranger, but not until 2025 at the earliest. At least it beats the Chevrolet. It won’t see a hybrid or electric version of its midsize Colorado pickup until 2026. Chevrolet is targeting 2024 for its full-size electric Silverado.
So it seems that neither company sees a hybrid version as a matter of urgency. But with big reservations for electric full-size pickups, not to mention buzz, we thought it might accelerate the addition of electrics or PHEVs. Probably not going to happen.
Ford’s Maverick compact pickup is available with a hybrid powertrain from day one. Yes, you can get one without it. But hybrid power is standard on the truck. And if you want a 2023 Maverick Hybrid, you’re out of luck. Ford closed its order books in early October 2022. So this shows a strong interest in hybrid pickup trucks.
Will the Raptor also get a hybrid version?

Ford also plans to offer a hybrid version of its Ranger Raptor, but we don’t dare to guess when. The same goes for the all-electric Ranger. All signs point to it coming, but not until a decade later.
The only thing that could change any of these truck makers’ electric plans is if interest and reservations continue at the current pace. The demand for hybrid and electric trucks is much higher than expected. And the only way to sell more products is to do what the buyers want. Currently, this is hybrid and electric vehicles.
So for the foreseeable future, the Ford Ranger will continue to use its inline four-cylinder engine as the only power option. Once the plans are clearer, we can provide more information.
