Minister of the City HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie yesterday opened the Umm Al Seneem Park, with the world’s largest air walkways, in Umm Al Seneem, Al Rayan Municipality, breaking Guinness world records.
The 1,143 meter long wind tunnel was awarded the title of Guinness World Records for ‘longest outdoor wind tunnel’ on October 17, 2022.
The exercise tracks, with a temperature setting of 26 degrees Celsius, aim to encourage visitors to exercise in order to improve their health.
Speaking to the media, the Minister of Urban Affairs said that the Umm Al Seneem Park spread over an area of over 130,000sqm is part of the Ministry’s program to improve the quality of life by increasing green spaces in Qatar.
“We have increased the country’s green spaces more than 10 times, compared to those in 2010 by building parks, landscaping and green spaces,” said the Minister. He said public parks have exercise machines, children’s play areas and walkers, and some of them have air conditioning for visitors.
“The parks were built with sustainability goals in mind to cut the carbon footprint and provide fresh air to visitors,” the Minister said, adding that efforts will continue to open more parks. new future.
Speaking to The CountrysideThe Director of the Public Parks Department, Muhammad Ali Al Khouri said that the electric trails of Umm Al Seneem Park have been registered in the Guinness World Records and the official certificate for the title of the record was issued by the authorities during the week it has passed.
The Umm Al Seneem Park was built by the Public Works Authority (Ahghal) in collaboration with the Ministry of Urban Affairs.
The park, which extends to 130,105sqm, can accommodate up to 6,000 visitors per day. The park’s green areas account for 68 percent of the total area, 88,400 square meters and 912 trees of 18 species, including 75 local trees and 820 square meters of green walls. The park has many great facilities, including an air-conditioned track for running and walking and a 1,143 meter long, circular shape around the park.
The bike path is 1,135 meters long. There are three areas for exercise, a fitness box where visitors can exercise from a screen that shows the trainers teaching exercises. The park also has two play areas, one for the 2 to 5 age group and the other for 6 to 12 years, with games dedicated to children with special needs.
Seven service kiosks, including six for food and beverage, one kiosk for bike rental and bike parking, besides providing garden furniture, benches made locally from Fiber Concrete (GRC) and Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP).
Energy saving light poles are installed. There is parking for people with special needs, in addition to seven water fountains, prayer rooms, and restrooms.
The eco-friendly air conditioning system of the corridors relies on generating 60% of the energy needed to operate air conditioners and solar panels, reducing energy consumption and maintaining temperature up to 26 degrees Celsius.
Director of Public Parks Department Muhammad Ali Al Khouri said that the number of public parks in Qatar increased from 56 in 2010 to 143 in 2022, a 164% growth.
He said that green areas jumped from 2,614,994sqm in 2010 to 43,861,133sqm in 2022, taking each person’s share of green space from 1sqm in 2010 to 16.2sqm in the year 2022, recording a 16-fold growth. “A total of 1,193,665 trees have been planted across the country under the ‘Plant Million Tree’ program, surpassing the target, equivalent to 15,517,645sqm of green space,” said Al Khouri.
Eng Mohammad Arqoub Al Khaldi, Chairman of the Inspection Committee for the Improvement of Roads and Public Spaces in Qatar said that Umm Al Seneem is an added value for achieving the environmental sustainability strategy, and empowering citizens and residents to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
The Director of Housing Department in Ashghal, Eng Jarallah Al Marri said that the solar park is in good condition as its cooling system is powered by solar energy.
