Yasin Nasser embarks on a journey of different proportions in his rally career after the arrival of a brand new car in the country.
The 2019 Uganda Rally Champion purchased a Ford Fiesta Rally2 from M-Sport in the UK. This is the first latest version of Ford Rally2 in Africa.
“Ever since the R5s graced the area, it was so clear that R5s were the future. From there I started dreaming of securing one. But this time we didn’t want a used car. After some consultation, Ford was the best choice and had the latest version of the R5. So getting this is a dream come true, Nasser said excitedly.
While Uganda’s top drivers go for Proto models, Nasser explained why he chose a decent Rally2 car.
“Proto cars are equally good, affordable and fast, but our ambitions are higher than what we currently offer in Proto, as it is limited to national championships,” said Nasser.
Nasser will dedicate the next year to the African Rally Championship. After announcing the ARC2 class in 2021, a bigger crown is now being targeted.
“To be honest, we would like to try for the ARC title. We had our ARC experience last season and obviously you need a stronger car to compete well. So the car will be used at the ARC and some national events,” he said.
Nasser will also compete in Uganda Rally Championship in selected areas in 2023.
He spent much of 2022 competing in the Tanzanian championships.
Next year is sure to be a busy one for the Moil-backed driver.
